Live a Spirit-Led Life

This past Sunday, the first Life-Application we looked at, was there are No Shortcuts Allowed if we want to Live a SPIRIT-LED Life (Galatians 5:25-6:1). This passage of Scripture from the book of Galatians points out 3 character traits that every believer must avoid in life and 1 that we must pursue after if we are to be Spirit-led, maturing believers.

The three that we are to avoid are:

1. Let us not become conceited (5:26)

In the Greek this word for "conceited" is referring to someone who is arrogant and wants to appear as something more than he or she is. In context with what Paul is talking about here, it is more accurately referring to those believers who are deceived into thinking that they are more spiritual than others. The word of God is telling us that this is a clear sign of spiritual immaturity.

2. Let us not provoke one another (5:26)

The word for "provoke" in the Greek means to challenge or provoke someone without just cause, or to be an unnecessary irritation because of your own spiritual pride. The word of God is telling us that this is a clear sign of spiritual immaturity.

3. Let us not ENVY one another (5:26)

The Greek word for ENVY here means to "experience a feeling of ill will due to real or presumed advantage or blessing that was given to someone else." At the heart of envy is jealousy, and a clear sign that you suffer from jealousy is that you are either grieved, angered, or discouraged by the fact that someone else may be blessed or recognized for doing something good." The word of God is telling us that this is a clear sign of spiritual immaturity.

The one area that we are called to pursue after is found in Galatians 6:1, and that is the fact that we will care for the spiritual wellbeing of other believers.

The one area that we are called to pursue after is:

1. Someone who is spiritually mature, and Spirit-led is going to be concerned with the spiritual well-being of their brother or sister who has been overtaken by sin.

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION:

  • What does the verse below, from Galatians 5:26 tell us must take place in order for us to live a Spirit-led life?

  • What does the verse below, from Galatians 6:1 tell us must take place in order for us to live a Spirit-led life?

  • What does Galatians 5:18-24 tell us must take place if we are to live a Spirit-led life?
