Doing the Work of an Evangelist

You can now listen to Doing the Work of an Evangelist , which is a message I shared with Horizon Christian Fellowship (Valley Center), this past Sunday.

What does the Bible say about God the Father?

Image
What does the Bible say about God the Father?  The Bible says that God the Father reigns over all creation with providential care (Psalm 103:19; Matthew 5:45: Acts 14:17), and is in control of every aspect of human life (Genesis 2:7), working all things out for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). His knowledge is unsearchable (Romans 11:33) His power is unmatched (John 10:29) and His love is unchanging (Romans 8:39). He is full of endless compassion (Lamentations 3:22-23), and is the Father of mercies and God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3). He is also the God of hope, who desires us to experience His joy and peace, and abound in hope (Romans 15:13). He is also love (1 John 4:8), and He has demonstrated His love to us by sending His Son Jesus to rescue us from our sin (Romans 5:8). His love can also be seen in the way He provides for us (Genesis 22:18; Philippians 4:19), protects us (John 10:29), and works in our lives for His good pur

I am really blessed to be sharing the message this Sunday at Horizon Christian Fellowship (Valley Center). I was asked to teach on Evangelism, so what better message than "Doing the Work of an Evangelist"? Please pray for the Holy Spirit to be upon me and to use me to say all that He intends for me to say.

What is godless chatter?

Image
What is godless chatter? The term godless chatter is used by the apostle Paul when he exhorts Timothy to, “Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some” (2 Timothy 2:16-18, NIV). In context, this passage of Scripture is dealing with the godless chatter of false teachers who were sneaking into the church and trying to corrupt the truth of God’s Word (2 Timothy 2:14-3:9). Paul clearly warns Timothy about them when he points them out by saying, “Their teaching will spread like gangrene” (2:17). Paul likens the godless chatter of false teachers to gangrene, which was a deadly disease that spread rapidly and ate away at a persons flesh. This Greek idiom truly emphasizes the repulsiveness of the ministry of the false

Prayer and the Peace of God

Image
What is the relationship between prayer and the peace of God? Peace is a blessing from God to His people (Ps. 29:11), and is made available through the work that Jesus did on the cross (Col. 1:20; Isa. 53:5), and through the work that the Holy Spirit is doing in our life (Gal. 5:22). Because Jesus is the very source of our peace (Eph. 2:14), we can experience ongoing peace in any circumstances by abiding in Him (Jn 16:33). In similar language the Old Testament tells us that whoever remains steadfast (i.e. abides) in God’s Word will be kept in “perfect peace” (Isa. 26:3). The Bible has a lot to say about God’s prescription for our peace. It certainly comes through prayer (Phil. 4:6), but not prayer alone. The Bible tells us we must be in Christ (Jn 16:33), walking in faith (Romans 15:13), and living a godly life if we want to experience the peace of God in our lives (Phil. 4:8-9). When we seek to understand the relationship that prayer and the peace of God have
