Depending upon your upbringing, and what type of influence your parents had upon your life (especially your father), it can dramatically affect the way you view your relationship with our Father in Heaven. Psychologists call this psychological phenomenon, "transference". Transference occurs when a person applies feelings toward, or expectations of, another person onto someone else (i.e. a therapist, or teacher, etc.), or in the case of a Christian, transference can often occur with our Heavenly Father, which unfortunately, if your relationship with your earthly father was negative, those feelings and lack of trust can quite possibly be transferred over to your relationship with your Heavenly Father.
