Will Tim Tebow join KISS?

What do you get when you combine my favorite childhood Rock Band together with my favorite NFL Quarterback? You get KISS and TIM TEBOW! And according to recent interviews with Radio.com and the LA TIMES, the infamous Rock Star Gene Simmons, from the legendary band KISS, and now owner of the LA KISS Arena Football team (scheduled to join the league in 2014), has offered a three-year deal to my favorite NFL quarterback, Tim Tebow.

Simmons told Radio.com that Tebow (who has been dropped by 3 NFL football teams, and harassed for his faith) has only been picked on because of his religious beliefs. Simmons then praised Tebow for his Christian convictions by saying, “He’s got religious passion, as well he should. We’re in America. He’s proud to be a Christian. What’s wrong with that? And yet, with sports media and pop culture media, they make fun of his religion. Really? In America? ...A guy who’s religious and has got family values isn’t cool? He’s cool to me.”

Simmons, a professed theology major in school, also added, “I think religion is good for mankind. Without the Ten Commandments,” he pauses to note, “Jews gave you that,” and continues, “Without that, there’d be chaos. Somebody had to say, ‘Here are some good ideas: don’t steal, and don’t kill.’ Those are good ideas. That’s called ‘civilization.’ There was once a time where those things weren’t written down. You had chaos! We still have chaos, but there’s a reference point. But those are good ideas. Honor thy father and thy mother. That’s a good idea!”

In his latest interview with the LA Times, Simmons did not fail to recognize the marketability of Tim Tebow, saying, “Acquiring Tebow would not only be a great investment for the team, but his exciting style of play would definitely send shockwaves through the League... We’re excited for the opportunity to see him with an LA KISS uniform on, and for the LA KISS fans to be rockin’ their Tebow shirts and jerseys... He'll get the respect that he didn't get in the NFL." Tebow has not yet responded to Simmons' offer.

When I think about the life of Tim Tebow, I think about a man who is being used mightily by God, as he courageously shares his faith to an enormously huge audience. He is a beautiful picture of what Christian Influence should look like. I think about what Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount.

Jesus said, "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works, and give glory to your Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 5:14-16).

Whether Tebow joins KISS or not, let's continue to pray for God to strengthen and encourage him, and give him the opportunity and ability to boldly and fruitfully present the gospel to the watching world.
