The Mountain Standing Before You

Image
What mountain is standing before you today? Is it a mountain of doubt, or is it a mountain that is increasing your faith? Are you having difficulty trusting that God will come through in a certain area of your life today? Are you struggling to believe that God has heard your prayers, that He knows the desires of your heart, and that God is able to provide for you? Do you feel as if there are insurmountable obstacles that stand before you and the promises that you believe God has spoken into your life? I can imagine that the day God tapped on Abraham’s shoulder and told him to take a walk with his son Isaac to Mount Moriah, and then gave him the purpose for their journey (), that Abraham must have been rocked to the core of his being as he processed through what God had asked of him. The Bible doesn’t reveal to us what was going on in this loving father’s heart as he was travelling with the son in whom he treasured so much. However, I can imagine that there was a terribly fierce w...

a great reminder for difficult seasons

"Never dread any consequence resulting from absolute obedience to His command. Never fear the rough waters ahead, which though their proud contempt impede your progress. God is greater than the roar of raging water and the mighty waves of the sea. "The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever" (Ps. 29:10). A storm is simply the hem of His robe, the sign of His coming, and the evidence of His presence. Dare to trust Him! Dare to follow Him! Then discover that the forces that blocked your progress and threatened your life become at His command the very materials He uses to build your street of freedom." - F.B. Meyer

A Tale of Three Kings

Image
This book is about the life of three kings whose story is told in such a way that leaves its reader constantly asking which king he best resembles. King Saul is a mad leader who attempts murder in order to keep his kingdom, while King Absalom is a young man who will deceive, and dishonor his father and king in order to rule the kingdom of his desire. King David, who is placed between both King Saul and his son Absalom, is a godly example of a man who must endure trials, suffering, and utter brokenness before God, in order to be a leader fit for God’s use and glory. The author is trying to show that there have been many people who have been hurt by Christian leaders who are of the order of King Saul – those who throw spears at anyone who gets in their way – rather than taking the godly road less traveled, which is the road of brokenness. The author contrasts these leaders with the life of King David in order to make a point that God is the one who is in control of who leads H...

What made America Great?

Image
After visiting America in 1831, French writer Alexis de Tocqueville said, “I sought for the greatness of the United States in her commodious harbors, her ample rivers, her fertile fields, and boundless forests—and it was not there. I sought for it in her rich mines, her vast world commerce, her public school system, and in her institutions of higher learning—and it was not there. I looked for it in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution—and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great!” When reading Alexis de Tocqueville's view of America, we can understand why Scripture says in  Psalm 33:12, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD." and in  Proverbs 14:34 the Bible tells us, "Righteousness EXALTS a nation, but sin...

Gotta have it Now!

We live in a gotta have it now society that has programmed us to live life in a hurry-up and rush mode, where we expect and obtain things immediately, right here and right now. This fast-paced reality makes it very difficult for us to have a meaningful relationship with Jesus. Gotta have it Now! from Jason Stewart on Vimeo .
